They are not more Pink Ladies - although some of them still remember when they were.
In recent years a growing number of men have joined the Coast Guard Auxiliary Newman Regional Sanitation, which now includes 130 active members and approximately 100 members.
Couples seem to be a bias more among the auxiliary members.
All provide full service for Newman and his patients, while offsetting the money in the budget of the hospital.
Newman employees and medical staff honor the contributions of the auxiliary members with a luncheon on Wednesday. Support President Sarah Mounkes Newman said that staff will be on tables in the ice for the event, scheduled during National Volunteer Week, April 17 to 23. Prices for the armed forces will also be presented.
"There's a whole new face on volunteerism and the little silver-haired Pink Lady is not the perception we want to represent more," said Mounkes movement of men in the calling of volunteers. "... They do not want to wear those little pink jackets.
